Biomedical interoperability and EPR: feedback from CHUV after 4 years of use

People often think clinicians are too critical about computerising healthcare environments. Whether they do so rightly or wrongly, they point the finger at system crashes, computer bugs, time-consuming training courses or having to use tools that are not very ergonomic or do not gel with their daily work. That said, when solutions meet their expectations, the opposite happens: they cannot get enough! A case in point is the Vaudois University Hospital (CHUV), a healthcare provider in Lausanne which is ranked among the top 10 in the world*. Project Manager at the CHUV, Jérémi BULTEEL, tells us what his experience has been of using the ENOVACOM Patient Connect solution.

The ENOVACOM Patient Connect solution is the first interoperability platform for biomedical devices and can automatically back up every physiological patient reading in real time (heart rate, breathing rate, temperature, Spo2, NIBP, blood pressure, etc.) and supply that data to the EPR quickly and securely. “Manual transcription is a waste of time and a source of errors. It also gives no added value to our physicians. This solution means that they can get back to focusing on treatment and spend more time treating patients,” Jérémi BULTEEL explains.

Started by POC** in 2016 to show that ENOVACOM Connect Patient integrates perfectly into the organisation’s application and technical architecture, the solution was implemented a few months later in the continuing cardiology care unit. It is now used across 12 of the CHUV’s departments: continuing care, recovery rooms, accident and emergency and every department where the 120 hospital patients require a higher level of monitoring. In total, over 110 monitors are connected to the EPR which automatically uploads vital signs.
